Usually when the moon is full, strange things happen. That was the case in Wiesbaden on Sunday night. Going into the game, it felt like our mini version of the NHL's Winter classic. With snow banks on the bench, the cold weather and white covering as far as the eye could see. But in the end it was more like Halloween! How often do you see a team score 3 shorthanded goals in the same game? One of them was a 3 on 5! Or a player get 2x 5 minute penalty on the same shift to put his team shorthanded for 10 minutes. In the end it seems like that strategy (although I am not sure designed that way) worked for Wiesbaden. "It was a close game until we went on the powerplay" said McNeill. Eintracht scored 40 seconds into the game as Fred Boettcher took a nice pass from Peter Renner and one timed it behind ex Eintracht goalie Kai Schmidlin. Wiesbaden soon answered making it 1-1. Renner was in a giving mood this night, finding Eisentrager at the side of the goal for 2-1 Eintracht lead. 2 Quick goals made it 3-2 for Wiesbaden. Maenz scored the 3rd goal for Eintracht making it 3-3. Unfortunately it wasn"t enough as 20 seconds before the end of the period Wiesbaden scored again. In a full out offensive period the score after 20 minutes was 3-4 for Wisebaden. The 2nd period was full of penalties, seeing 3 players ejected. After the period was over Wiesbaden was somehow ahead 7-3 even though they rarely had 5 men on the ice. Killing off a 10 minute penalty and scoring 3 goals in this span. Unfortunately with a mini kader to begin with and an injury to Boettcher the Eintracht was forced to try a comeback with only 9 skaters. In the end Wiesbaden wanted the game more than Eintracht and celebarted a deserving win with their fans. Eintracht has a chance to turn this rollercoaster of a season around with a big Home game on Saturday against Mainz. Where coach McNeill expects a better effort from his team!
