Hockey anywhere, anytime is the best way for me to describe our group of new players. Coaching a hobby team is not easy, there are too many distractions and not an honest committment to play. With the group of new guys we have now I have at least 15-18 reliable players that I can count on not only at games but also at training. This attitude will help improve out team, by creating a competitive atmosphere where I will have choices in presenting our line up for the games.
I am looking forward to the first game of the year, to see if the tempo at training can carry over to a meaniningful game. I can guarantee 1 thing, our roster will look different this year.
The first difference is in goal. With the departure of Russ Ramos, the starting job will be given to Julian Hessel. Julian has looked good in Training, he is motivated and ready for Saturdays game. The back up duties this year will be given to Michael Dolgner. Michi has been with our team for over 5 years and had steadily improved to the point where he is ready to back up for the 1st team.
I can't remember the last time we had such a strong group of defensemen. Speed should be our game, and that always starts in your own end. Newcomers Schlicht and Alm, combined with veterans Maj, Samochwalow, Kreiling and Hilton give us a reliable top 6.
At forward we will certainly miss Mehlhorn, but I am looking for our veterans like Maenz, Eisentrager and Pregler to pick up their game. With 3 new forwards Butcher, Ertzel, Boettcher in our top 9, we will have a totally new look up front. The tempo at training has been so high, I have been afraid to put my euipment on as I am not sure I can keep up anymore.
If we can ever play a game with all 15 of our top players, I feel we can compete with anyone in the Hessen league. I am not saying that we are the best team on paper, we still have to give 110% wether we play the league favorite or the botton teams. But I expect us to give all we have no matter what line up we present.
